INNOVATION
Charter Schools provide a choice in education for Wisconsin's families and help Wisconsin's public schools system improve the quality of education for ALL students with innovative curriculums.
Our Conference—Innovation and Interaction
This year’s Conference is different. Why? Because Charters
Schools are different. Charter Schools are engines for innovation
in the educational system. Charter Schools do not compete against
traditional public schools. They work with and for the public
school system. They provide diversity in the system and they test
different educational models.
They are the equivalent of Silicon Valley startups. Certainly, some
will not succeed—but even so we learn from their efforts. And,
those that do succeed transform the educational landscape.
So, like Charter Schools, our conference is going to be innovative,
experimental and interactive. Certainly, we want you to come and
learn. We want you to connect to people and resources you can bring
home to support your educational efforts. But, most of all, we want
you to come and have fun.
If you come, you are going to get your hands dirty. We expect you
to try things out and to offer your expertise.
Our view is that everyone who comes is a teacher-learner or a
learner-teacher. That is what Charter Schools are about.
Keynote Speakers include Curt Johnson, co-author of
Disrupting Class, James Paul Gee, Mary Lou Fulton
Presidential Professor of Literacy Studies at the Arizona State
University.
The 2009 Charter Schools Conference
will host mini-conferences that will benefit all schools. The
mini-conferences are an opportunity to learn about the innovation
taking place in classrooms, network among peers and bring the
experience back to your school. Separate sessions will also
be available to attendees.
