NLU Wisconsin offers master and doctoral level degrees for teachers and administrators leading to Wisconsin administrator, principal and superintendent licensure. Accredited nationally through NCATE and regionally through North Central, NLU supports the professional ambitions of Wisconsin educators with a convenient, highly interactive model of in-person and online instruction.

Our innovative Charter School Emphasis programs are designed to meet the practical needs of Charter School professionals.

M.Ed and Ed.S in Administration and Supervision-Charter School Emphasis
This program prepares Charter School leaders to effectively sustain their school’s promise of excellence and to be faithful stewards of the school’s vision and mission.  Practical, project-based curriculum gives participants real-world experience in a variety of core skill areas including: how to locate and secure school facilities; develop and monitor budgets, grants, and other funding sources; hire, train, and recruit staff; work closely with a governing board; and to market the school.  This program qualifies applicants for positions in Charter School Administration as well as the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Administrator’s license type 51 Principal, Associate Principal, Assistant Principal; license type 10 Director of Curriculum and Instruction; and license type 80 Director of Pupil Services, Director of Special Education.

M.Ed in Teaching, Learning and Assessment (TLA)-Charter  School Emphasis
This program offers graduate education specifically designed for the charter school teaching professional. Whether you are presently employed by a charter school or would like to transition from traditional public education to charter, this program will train you in leading edge assessment tools and differentiated instructional strategies to deliver accurate and empowering evaluations and instruction for your students. Today’s society has performance-based expectations for all teachers; the TLA-Charter Emphasis program transforms good teachers into exceptional teachers who can navigate change with confidence and responsive flexibility.

Charter schools require teacher-leaders to be personally accountable as a role model of the vision and mission of the school. In partnership with school administrators, the charter school teacher-leader often participates in school development and duties that may extend beyond the scope of the school building. Charter school teacher-leaders enjoy respect and privileges often not available within the more hierarchical traditional public school setting. Opportunities may include the chance to develop progressive school-wide curriculum; create and deliver professional development for staff; and to participate in and influence a variety of areas of school governance.

Consider joining our community of learners who are focused on Charter School instruction, planning, implementation, and sustainability.  We know that networking with others of like mind and interest will be of great value as ideas, stories, and information are exchanged.

WISCONSIN CHARTER SCHOOLS ATTORNEY

Kris Gotzmer is a strong advocate for the establishment of charter schools in Wisconsin. Charter schools are public, nonsectarian schools created through a contract agreement or "charter" between the school's governance board and the sponsoring school board or another chartering authority. Wisconsin charter school law gives charter schools freedom from most state rules and regulations in exchange for greater accountability for results. The charter contract defines the missions, teaching methods and operations of the charter school. The chartering authority holds the school accountable to its charter.

STATEWIDE CHARTER SCHOOL PRACTICE

Kris Gotzmer is involved with charter schools at various levels ranging from helping schools obtain and school charters to the formation of the non-profit organization that will be operating the charter school, to buying, selling, leasing, financing or constructing school buildings. He represents the charter schools, nonprofits, parent groups and individuals in matters related to charter schools.

CHARTER SCHOOL ISSUES – START-UP, OPERATIONS, WINDING-UP AND DISSOLUTIONS

Kris Gotzmer's charter school practice is statewide. Kris has represented clients with a variety of matters related to:
